Ferrari will approach the 2008 season again with a policy of driver equality, according to Felipe Massa.
The Brazilian 26-year-old’s team-mate Kimi Raikkonen won the world championship this year, but Massa insists that the Italian team will not designate a preferred driver for next season even though Raikkonen’s car will officially bear the number one.
“The strategy will not change,” he told the Brazilian publication Terra. “In 2007 we won everything thanks to team work.”
In its first championship campaign without Michael Schumacher since 1995, Ferrari won both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles this year.
“Thanks to team work we had a great season,” said Massa, who placed fourth in the final drivers’ classification, 16 points behind Raikkonen.
“We will continue in the same way,” he explained, “because when you win championships, there is no reason to change.”
Massa said he will not go to the first Grand Prix of 2008 feeling inferior to Raikkonen, although his red car will bear the number two.
“Unfortunately I had several problems that prevented me from fighting for the (2007) title,” he said.
“Now I am getting ready for the new season.”
