Middleweight Gary Lockett is ready to take his 2007 frustrations out on Kai Kauramaki in Edinburgh on Friday. Lockett, 31, is the WBO’s number one contender, but the eight-rounder with Finnish journeyman Kauramaki, 40, will be only his second fight of the year.
“I do feel a bit like the forgotten man after I had such a good win in April,” Lockett told the South Wales Argus.
“But I’m hoping I’ll get my shot sometime in 2008. I’ve got world class power and I will fight anyone.”
WBU middleweight title holder Lockett, who is trained by Enzo Calzaghe, has a career record of 29 wins and one defeat, with 20 knockouts to his name.
Kauramaki, known as “Ironman”, has won 13 and lost 13 in a nine-year professional career.
The bout will be on the undercard of Alex Arthur’s WBO super-featherweight defence against Mancunian Steve Foster.
