Frustrated Lockett out to shine

huw.jpgMiddleweight Gary Lockett is ready to take his 2007 frustrations out on Kai Kauramaki in Edinburgh on Friday. Lockett, 31, is the WBO’s number one contender, but the eight-rounder with Finnish journeyman Kauramaki, 40, will be only his second fight of the year.

“I do feel a bit like the forgotten man after I had such a good win in April,” Lockett told the South Wales Argus.

“But I’m hoping I’ll get my shot sometime in 2008. I’ve got world class power and I will fight anyone.”

WBU middleweight title holder Lockett, who is trained by Enzo Calzaghe, has a career record of 29 wins and one defeat, with 20 knockouts to his name.

Kauramaki, known as “Ironman”, has won 13 and lost 13 in a nine-year professional career.

The bout will be on the undercard of Alex Arthur’s WBO super-featherweight defence against Mancunian Steve Foster.
